Positive Health and Wellness Division
Election 2018
Biography:
Principal investigator of the translational research group at FIDMAG Research Foundation, I am a psychiatrist medical doctor and statistician who earned his doctorate in biostatistics of brain imaging at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN, King’s College London). I have led many multidisciplinary studies about psychology, psychiatric disorders, leading to >100 publications in indexed journals (>70% in the first quartile). I was included in the Highly Cited Researchers List 2017. I have also developed several new meta-analytic and neuroimaging methods, among which ‘MetaNSUE’ and ‘SDM’ software must be highlighted for their applicability and becoming methods most used by the scientific community now. I have mainly developed my work in London, New Haven (Yale University), Stockholm (Karolinksa Institutet) and Barcelona.
Statement of Interest:
I have been interested in promoting subjective well-being and tackling mental illnesses since I was a teenager, when I used to write about theories on happiness in a local newspaper. This was the reason why I studied Medicine and Psychiatry, and the first three years of Psychology. During my training, however, I began to understand the crucial importance of evidence-based knowledge. I found that I had a talent for methodology, so I decided to focus my training on the methods of evidence-based research. I then studied Statistics, conducted a PhD on Biostatistics, and have since broadened my knowledge on statistics, scientific methodology, programming, online assessments, website optimization and related fields.
Hi Joaquim,
I have a few questions:
1. Spanning the gulf between research and practice is central to the Division. What would a future where this gap is bridged look like? How can the Division help move us all there?
2. What has been your best experience with the Positive Health and Wellness Division so far? (Could be a program, event, exchange, etc.)
3. Can you give an example of a time where you lead a team that created a successful outcome?
Dear Jenny, thank you for your comment.
I want to highlight that one of my main aims would be promoting the relationship between research and practice bidirectionally:
– From research to practice, to provide evidence-based positive practices.
– From practice to research, to guide the investigation towards useful positive practices.
Regarding previous projects and outcomes, please see https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=Radua+J
Hi Joaquim, thank you so much for your sustained interest in serving the positive psychology community! What do you feel are the most critical aspects of the Division member experience? In what ways can Divisions become even more effective in their work engaging members?
Thanks for your consideration!
L
Dear Leona, thank you for your question. On the one hand, I agree with other candidates that one way to increase engagement is to increase the online presence. On the other hand, I think that the promotion of a close relationship between research and practice will additionally increase the engagement. Specifically, one of my main aims is that researchers help the division select evidence-based practices. And I strongly think that many individuals will engage in our division if it is known to provide evidence-based positive practices.
